Community Stalker

It sounds creepier than it is…

In contrast to the Social Media Stalker, this is an in-person experience. Think of the Starbucks pay-it-backward concept.

Simple examples:

  1. Buy a pop or candy bar for the checker at Aldi;
  2. Give the Southwest attendant an extra drink coupon to pay for your neighbor’s mimosa on that nonstop to Vegas;
  3. Cover the remainder of the bill for the grocery patron in front of you who’s short a few bucks.
  4. Buy a coffee for the person in the coffee drive-through line, or behind you in the store.

Flipping the narrative example: In 2016, a vocal supporter of my client’s opponent blasted me on social media for a hit piece she presumed I created. I refused to give oxygen to the claims (you’re only defensive if you have something to be defensive about). Long after the election, I saw her at a local restaurant and sent her another of the drink she was having. She came to thank me in person, saying she can always be bought with vodka. We began monthly happy hour meetings that lasted until COVID struck.

Happy serving!
