Tiny effort = Huge reward!
Now that we’ve covered Town Hall Meeting tips ad nauseam… Let’s talk about creative ways to make a big impression on a constituent or friend, and maybe turn an adversary into a supporter.
Ever see someone’s post on social media that they’re at a restaurant and it’s clearly in-the-moment, not posted hours later?
Example 1: My brother was living in Honolulu and posted a picture of musicians playing at a restaurant. He tagged the restaurant in his post. I did the math, realized it was dinner time there, and called the restaurant to send him a drink.
- Ask if your target has an open tab.
- If not, describe where the person is sitting, and/or their appearance.
- If yes, a few ideas:
- Pay for a drink or food item already on their tab.
- Send the person another of what they already ordered, or a new food item.
Example 2: A friend texted from the Napa Wine Train, saying their ticket didn’t include a glass of wine! I knew she wouldn’t spend the money for her own glass. I called the company with her name and train details. They were able to contact the train and have champagne sent to my friend and her guest – a story they will recount for decades!
CAVEAT: This depends on the quality of customer service – I tried this recently with Viking cruises, which required all purchases be ordered eight days prior to departure! You have a phone that reaches the boat, and a credit card processing machine on the boat, right? Apparently they didn’t want my money!
Happy serving!
