Get it? How-To? Is there such a thing as mom jokes?
Now that you’ve planned the perfect Town Hall, what’s next? What do you DO? We recommend planning for one hour – half your time and half Q&A. Here’s an outline for your part of that time.
- Personal: What’s up in your world? Did you:
- Attend a conference?
- Participate in a regional panel discussion (virtual or in-person)?
- Go on a family vacation?
- Volunteer?
- Official: What’s up with your board?
- Updates on big projects.
- Details about upcoming economic development work.
- Find something light to mention as well:
- Did you spend two hours on a cat ordinance?
- Host an Eagle Scout ceremony or have other fun visitors or recognitions?
- Cross-Governmental: What’s up with the governing bodies above and below you
- How do their actions impact your board’s work?
- Upcoming Events:
- Next meeting date/time
- Parade/festival
- Campaign events/fundraisers?
- State legislative deadlines:
- Bills introduced/turned over.
- Session beginning/ending
- Veto/reconsideration deadlines
Under each heading above, be sure you’re answering the What’s In It For Me (WIIFM) question: Why should constituents care and what can they do about it?
