Open the Door to Gratitude
We’re a day early. It might not make sense to send this on a holiday, but we figure by 4 pm, you’ll be on the couch in elastic waistband pants, drifting in and out of a tryptophan coma, playing on your phone, and thus more likely to read this today than tomorrow!
AND – you’ll definitely need this for tomorrow if you’re going to be out in the shop-stravaganza crowds: Make a conscious effort to hold the door for everyone.
Maybe you’re already a door-holder. Even so, we know you’ve had the thought: “Eh, he’s a little farther behind me than what would be expected for me to wait and hold the door.” Hold the door anyway.
- The mom trailing multiple kids with bags in each arm, saying “I got it, but thanks.” Hold the door anyway.
- The gentleman wearing a Vietnam War cap who doesn’t need your help. Hold the door anyway – “you risked your life, the least I can do is hold the door for a hero”.
The recipient doesn’t have be in obvious need of help, holding that door is a no-brainer. Let’s be people that hold the door for everyone, even if it’s a little uncomfortably long. It costs an extra second or two, creates gratitude the recipient wasn’t expecting, and probably makes you smile, too.
Finally, we’re thankful for you, your support of this endeavor, and for taking these little bits of service out into the world.
Happy serving,
