A few weeks ago, this newsletter spotlighted your role as a patron (taxpayer) of your area’s community college. Let’s discuss that a little more…
The intent of this newsletter is to provide low-commitment, high-impact tips to serve your neighbors and community. Many of those tips have involved equipping yourself with information in order to serve as a resource to those around you.
Today’s tip is to learn more about your community college. Maybe even take a class!
- Find a community college near you: https://www.aacc.nche.edu/
- Launching Point: Checking gen ed boxes before a Bachelor’s degree without going broke? Learning a trade AND how to run a business for it? Those are community colleges’ specialities, but think of these as well:
- Starting a Business: CCs are a hub of entrepreneurial activity. Learn how to start, grow, and sell a business. Make chamber of commerce, import/export, production, and logistics contacts – with expertise in your community!
- Mid-Career Retooling: Is AI or other technologies changing how your industry works and you need a refresher to stay on top of your game?
- Midlife Reinvesting: Or maybe your midlife crisis leaves you feeling stuck and you want to learn a new skill. No? Just me then? Good. Great. Moving on…
- Non-degree-seeking: Did you know most CCs offer enrichment programs in a wide range of interests from watercolor, cooking, travel, crafts, and even wine? Movie & book talks. Art museums & community concerts. Nationally recognized speakers & globally relevant partnerships.
All this AND MORE are available for your advancement at your local community college. You’re already a patron via your taxes. Get the most out of it by utilizing services and spreading the word to others!
CHALLENGE: Recruit a neighbor to take an enrichment class with you. Reply to any newsletter about it – we want to hear your stories!
Happy serving,
Stephanie Sharp
