Democracy Needs a Crew – YOU!
Voting gets all the glory. But democracy doesn’t actually run itself on Election Day.
It runs on people. People who show up at 6 a.m. to set up tables, help confused voters find their booth, explain the ballot, troubleshoot the machine, and stay until every last vote is counted.
Paid poll workers in Johnson County are, to me, unsung civic heroes. (This is me singing their praises!)
And here’s what I love most about the setup: the county recruits workers of all political affiliations intentionally. Because a fair election isn’t just fair — it has to look fair. It has to be transparent.
If you’ve ever worried about election integrity, here’s your most direct response: be in the room. Be one of the people who makes it run right.
It’s a long day. It is completely worth it.
