3 Birds šŸ¦… šŸ¦¢ šŸ¦

During this yearā€™s S60S challenge, this space will be used to detail civic engagement concepts directly related to the challenge Bingo card, interspersed with other S60S concepts from time to time.

This week you can kill three birds with one stone!

  1. Email your legislator
  2. Meet with your legislator
  3. Visit your state Capitol.

Many legislatures begin their meetings (legislative session) at the beginning of the calendar year. This is also the best time to meet with them. Later in the session, schedules become less predictable, committee meetings less easy to miss, and days are back-to-back busy.

Email or call your state senator and representativeā€™s Capitol office (google for your state legislature website and official contact information).

  • If you donā€™t know who represents you, most states have a search function on the legislative website or you can go to Vote411.org.

Set a meeting at the Capitol during the session. Itā€™s a great way to see them in their element and watch some of the process. In-session meetings are short due to tight schedules. We highly recommend a Capitol tour as well. Thereā€™s a ton of history and lore in these buildings and a good tour guide will give you a bit of both!

If you donā€™t want to check off the Visit the Capitol box, contact your legislators to meet in the off-session time (Fall/Winter in many states) at a local coffee shop. They will have a little more time if you have specific questions or ideas that take longer.

Let us know how it goes!

Happy serving,
