Swipe Right

If you’ve had children in the last 20 years, you know the absolute horror of entertainment complexes (Chuckie Cheese, Dave & Busters, Power Play, Main Event, etc.).

The lights. The sound of constant high-pitched or yo-yo-like bells, sirens, tinny music. The smells. The screaming and running. The germs. And that’s just the line to buy your tickets!

Here are a few ideas to serve your neighbors and make these experiences more worth living through (barely). Make sure to do this without your kiddo seeing, or you might have a battle on your hands.

  1. As you’re leaving one game to head to the next, swipe your card again and leave it open for the next player to be surprised with a free play.
  2. If there’s a kid playing near you:
    1. Especially if they’ve complained about not having enough money on their card,
    2. If their card has run out, or heck,
    3. If they’re being really respectful to their parents, or have good behavior and manners, give ‘em a swipe!
      1. Sample scripts:
        1. “Hey – we’re getting ready to leave, have a game on us!”
        2. “Here’s another game – pay it forward the next time you’re here.”
        3. “I’ve seen you being very respectful, playing nice, sharing with others, and using good manners. Here’s a game on us!”
  3. If you still have some tokens on your card you’re willing to sacrifice, hand it off to someone waiting in line (and wish them luck and patience:).

Happy serving!
